Meet Your Provider
Hi, I'm John Schmidt- a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner based in Western New York. Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, I obtained an undergraduate degree in nursing from Gannon University in 2017 and a masters degree as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from D'youville University in 2020. Since 2021, I've treated adult patients from all walks of life, helping them find clarity, stability, and hope while navigating the many challenges of life using evidence-based treatments.
I believe the best care starts with a real connection. My role is to listen without judgement, understand your unique story and create a treatment plan that feels both practical to your needs and empowering. Whether you're seeking help for the first time or continuing your mental health journey, I'll meet you with compassion, respect, and with evidence based treatment plans.
Since moving to the Buffalo region in 2017, I've been welcomed into the Bills Mafia, settled the debate in favor of blue cheese over ranch dressing, and continued the proud tradition of shoveling my own snow- proof that resilience comes in many forms!
I am also a proud member of the Air Force Reserve for almost 15 years. Serving locally at Niagara Fall Air Reserve Station.

FAQS
Questions?
I have answers.
-
Yes! I am accepting new patients for intake visits at my Williamsville office and intermittent use office in Brooklyn. Please use the booking tab to see availability. I am now offering evening and Saturday morning appointments!
-
Typically most visits will be done in office. On a case by case basis, some intake and follow up visits can be conducted virtually. If I feel your condition would be best treated in office, I will inform you before you are seen or credit card is charged.
-
Intake visits are generally 60 minutes. Follow up visits are typically 20-45 minutes with the frequency of the visits dependent on treatment plan and a mutually agreed upon treatment interval.
-
At this time, I am only treating adults over the age of 18
-
Not at this time. Accepted insurances can be found on the Insurance tab.
-
Yes. I can provide you a receipt and you can attempt to submit this to your health insurance for potential reimbursement.
-
Refills can be requested by established patients during regular business hours for medications prescribed by me. I kindly ask that you attempt to send all medication refills one week from the last dose to prevent lapse in treatment.
-
I do not offer free consultations. Please book an initial intake visit for an comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to review your treatment options.
-
I will do my best to accommodate reschedule requests. Cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment prevent other patients from being seen and are subject to a $100 cancellation fee that will likely not be covered by insurance. Refills will not be granted for cancellations.

I do not write letters for service or emotional support animals mainly due to the malpractice liability and secondary insurance complexities associated with such animals. I can provide a reference to a service who can evaluate and potentially author such letter.
